Brand is all about the quality of your content and perception of your audience. Your niche has leaders and you want to be one of them. Part of a successful brand experience online is engaging and consumable content. Tweaking a few site settings will start you off right in the minds of your potential customers as you work to earn sales through your creative content efforts.
Add a Blog Post Category
By default all of your post content is placed in an Uncategorized category which displays on your posts. Updating your default post category to a new name shows users that your content is designed well and that you have authority in your niche to warrant an audience.
Navigate to Bluehost and log into your site.
Select the Log into WordPress button to log into your site.
Select the Posts and then Categories menu items on the left-hand side.
Add a new category name which will be your new default category your posts are placed under. You may add other categories and update on each post you write, but for now you want a new category assignment default labeled something other than Uncategorized.
Press the Add New Category button to add a new post category to your site.
Once your new post category is added you will make it your default post category.
Make Your New Category the Default
Select the Settings and Writing menu items on the left to update your default post category to the new category you created.
Change the default post category to your new category and press the Save Changes button.
Now you may update your post urls to look great when sharing.
Update Post Permalinks
A permalink is your url address of each page on your site. This may be different than the title of a page or blog post. Having a clean and simple permalink structure increases brand perception, shows professionalism, makes your links nice to look at and easy to share, and helps to get you found by search engines.
Select the Permalinks menu item under the Settings menu on the left-hand side to update your site urls to a nicer format.
Select the Custom Structure option to update.
Place your mouse cursor to the left most field in the Custom Structure option and click on the %category% button to place a post category before a post name in your site url structure.
Press the Save Changes button to update your post urls.
Now your posts will fall under your new category by default and all of your site post urls will reflect this naming convention.
Update Post Author
By default the Author listing on your posts defaults to what is placed in front of the @ symbol on your Bluehost account’s email address you used during the sign up process. You want to replace this with your name or something blanket to be displayed on your posts.
Select the Users and Profile menu items on the left-hand side to update the default author name to your preferred name.
The Nickname and Display Name Publicly As fields are set to your WordPress username by default.
Enter your preferred name in the Nickname field and then select your Nickname from the Display Name Publicly As field.
Press the Update Profile button to save your changes.
Now all of your posts with be authored by the name you selected! With a clean post structure you are ready to start writing branded content on your site!
